Our Stories

Recovery has many faces and many paths. Here are some of the voices from our community — honest, real, and shared with hope.

Why share? Negative media about meth perpetuates stigma, and many people who use or have used crystal feel isolated and afraid to talk openly. By sharing our stories — on our own terms — we help reduce that stigma and show that recovery is real and possible.

I came to my first SOS meeting not sure I was even ready to quit. No one pressured me. No one told me I was doing it wrong. They just listened and shared their own experiences. That was what I needed to hear — that people had been where I was and found a way through.

What I found at SOS was a group of people who understood the intersection of being gay and trying to get sober. We could talk about sex, about dating, about all the stuff that comes up when you’re rebuilding your life. That honesty changed everything for me.

The open discussion format made a huge difference. I’d tried 12-step and felt like I was constantly holding back. At SOS, I could actually ask questions and get real answers. It felt like talking to friends who happened to have been through what I was going through.

Recovery isn’t something that happened to me in a single moment. It’s something I’m building, piece by piece. SOS has been a constant part of that — a place I can come back to, no matter where I am in my journey.
